Opening Mission

There are lots of Photo sites out there that show off photos and ask for reviews, sites that push camera gear, regurgitate the news, give free and not so free photoshop shooting and editing classes of dubious value or do hard core reviews of the latest camera and lenses. What I can't find is a site that reviews all these sites, explains the less obvious things like filters and how to use them, or why the places with the best prices are also the same places with the worst service.

You know like there are 100s of sites to tell me which camera to buy but how about how to use a filter and I'm not talking about the Sky light ones. Everyone talks about the slick and glamorous stuff but what's the difference between the many kinds of tripods? Which pack is best for a trip through the jungle, up a mountain, or just on the commuter train to work? How about which place to buy good camping gear that is useful or at least does not get in the way of a photographers requirements? How do some photographers seem to find the most beautiful models while I'm lucky to get old aunt stone face to sit for me?

Since no one covers this stuff I thought I would, (what the heck, I actually know some of this stuff, I don't know why I'm suppose to not admit it when I don't , I know I can only learn by asking again and again until the person with the answers breaks down and submits to my pestering questions, or I'm curious enough to waste a week figuring things out) along with some help from you and a few friends I think we can have a really interesting and perhaps by some odd chance a useful blog.

I will hit a number of topics, I will recommend places to buy things, I will tell you about the customer service I get at certain stores, and little unknown or little talked (or cared) about details that can help you take better pictures and are not things like use a tripod (you should but we all know this), set your white Balance (how do I do that?), or what the heck are all the kinds of polarizer filters for and which one should I buy (there's more than one kind)?

Yes I will throw in an occasion image because 1. I like people to see my work and do welcome comments just like you, and 2. I need to illustrate how to use the stuff I've writing about, or 3. I just feel like it!

Oh and if your a manufacturer; Feel free to send me lots of free stuff to review or loan me gear to write about, It's okay if you've just invented a smarted way to press the shutter release or a one more nifty new lens cap. I know you'll never get those other sites to write about it but I will. And if you ask really nice several times I'll return the loaner products you send for me to review.

One thing is for sure I will not be too serious, always honest, have no reservations about complaining about crappy products, service, or scams, and I hope you can learn something as well as teach me a few things too. If you have ideas of topics you want me to research just add a comment or drop me an e-mail. I have some ideas lined up but I want to write what you want to read at least half the time!
